The damage comes in …
The damage comes in when you use it to connect with friends of friends of friends whom you don’t even know! Or when it’s used to keep in touch with friends/family who DON’T live miles away, but are right beside you @ home!

You have a good …
You have a good point but studies have shown that people have more “Facebook Friends” then they even know. I believe it is getting out of hand and just in response to what you said, if that is all people do (message your family members/friends that live far away) the average person wouldn’t need over 300 members on their friends list.

mccree49 said in December 26th, 2009 at 3:50 pm

I don’t think …
I don’t think they’re a waste of our lives. Their main purpose is to expand our communication with others. Just by a click of a button or 2 you’re able to stay in touch with friends or family who live miles away from you. What’s so damaging about that?

I agree with …
I agree with mccree49. I use facebook to talk to my friends that live too far away to hang out with and I use it to make plans to hang out with people. So I think they’re great and are very helpful in being a social person.

KSharma402 said in December 26th, 2009 at 3:50 pm

Although social …
Although social networking sites make it easier to contact your friends, it isn’t a substitute for the real thing. Instead of saying “whats up?” on facebook you could instead ask them in person. I believe people treat facebook differently than you do mccree49. Some people believe that messaging someone on facebook is equal to hanging out with someone. In my opinion this will lead to a new type of anti-social behavior caused by social networking.

mccree49 said in December 26th, 2009 at 3:50 pm

I think social …
I think social networking sites are great! It makes contacting my friends much more convenient. I have family that lives on the other side of the country so it makes it easy to keep in touch. Anytime I want to know what my friends are up to I can just check their Facebook/Twitter to see what their status says. I don’t think it changes our communication skills that much- I’m not glued to the computer screen constantly and I still make time to hang out with my friends in person.

In my opinion, the …
In my opinion, the way we interact with each other has changed for the worst thanks to these social networking sites. Even though I am also an addict of facebook I fear that in years to come we will become so used to non face-to-face communication that it will harm our “real life” social skills. We are the first generation to use these sites heavily and it is going to be interesting to see how our communication skills will change. That’s just my opinion though, tell me if you guys agree/dissagre
