Yes, yes, you can argue that it exposes people to new products, but I find myself ignoring all of those annoying in-browser car ads and whatnot. People make money off of each click on the advertisement, but the only time I’ve ever clicked on one was accidentally in yahoo mail (which spawned this question). Does the benefit outweigh the cost? I don’t understand.
The point of internet advertising is that it pays for all the ‘free’ services, such as Yahoo e-mail, that you get to enjoy. Otherwise, if ISPs didn’t have access to internet advertising revenue, they would have to make money by charging for their services.
Just because you don’t click does not mean others don’t. Be glad they do, it keeps this and other services free (for now).
